Q. when was the house built?
A. 1858 or thereabouts

Q. did you have to do much work on it?
A. nope. just cosmetic stuff, like painting and tiling. nothing structural.

Q. why did you choose caux?
A. truthfully, we didn't. we found the church house, and loved it so much that we didn't even notice or care what the village was like. luckily for us, caux ended up being a lovely, friendly place. and so when the b&b came up for sale just around the corner from our home, we snapped it up!

Q. are you open all year?
A. no, we are only open from may 1st - october 1st. and that's not (just) because we are lazy. those are the best months in terms of weather, and also for the best shopping and restaurants, since many of our favourite places are closed out of season.

Q. what are your rates?
A. our rates range from 65 to 80 euros per room, per night, depending on the size and location of the room, and the time of year. we sometimes offer discounts for groups (please ask us when you book).

Q. what forms of payment do you accept?
A. we prefer to be paid in euros, once you have arrived and settled in, either at the beginning or end of your stay. however, we can also accept us and uk cheques, and online credit card payments sent via PayPal (www.paypal.co.uk)

Q. do you have a minimum stay?
A. not exactly, but guests choosing to stay one night may end up paying a little bit more (since, for us, the amount of work is the same for a one-night stay as a four-night stay).

Q. do you have a maximum stay?
A. we don't normally accept bookings that last longer than five nights, as we believe that guests will be more comfortable in self-catering accommodation for stays longer than that.

Q. do you offer any other meals apart from breakfast?
A. sometimes, if we have six or eight people staying, and we think that they will all enjoy an evening together. if an evening meal is being planned for when you are staying with us, we will advise at the time of booking, along with details of the menu and prices (although there is no obligation to take part).

Q. so can i use your fridge to store some wine or beer, or use your kitchen to heat up soup or to microwave a meal from the supermarket?
A. unfortunately, no. guest access to the kitchen is prohibited as the kitchen is locked outside of breakfast hours.

Q. do you allow children at the stone house?
A. we do, but we rarely have children stay here, as the house isn't particularly 'child-friendly' . . . lots of hard tile, steep open-tread stairs, and a fair amount of breakable stuff. plus, all of our rooms have king-size beds, so people with children often end up taking two rooms, which isn't always very economical, compared to other b&b's that offer large 'family rooms'.

Q. do you allow pets?
A. honest answer? sometimes. it depends on the pet, how big/small it is, and how busy we are at the time. it is always worth asking (the worst we can say is no)

Q. your web site is fantastic - who designed it?
A. thanks. michael did it himself.

Q. can you tell me where you got your sheets / pillows / glasses / towels / duvets / coffee / butter / shower gel / cereal?
A. of course, just tell us what you're after, and we can tell you what it's called and exactly where we bought it.

Q. i have forgotten my razor / toothbrush / toothpaste / travel power adapter - do you have any?
A. yes, please ask us.

Q. did you know that your dog is on the sofa?
A. yes, just push him off if you'd like to sit down, the cheeky devil.

Q. do you have air-conditioning?
A. yes, all of our guest rooms are air-conditioned

Q. do you offer secure parking?
A. we do have limited parking in our front courtyard, but there is plenty of free parking on all of the side streets around the b&b, all less than two minutes' walk away. we can provide secure parking for bicycles and motorcycles though, yes.

Q. are any of your rooms wheelchair-accessible?
A. unfortunately, no. all of our guest rooms are located upstairs.

Q. what is your smoking policy?
A. smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the house. guests are welcome to smoke in the garden - please ask us for an ashtray. although breakfast is served outside, we discourage guests from smoking at breakfast, as it is considered by many people to be impolite.

Q. is there internet access available at the stone house?
A. yes, we have an iMac computer with high-speed internet access that is available for guests to use whenever they wish. guests with wi-fi equipped laptops can also log onto our wireless network from anywhere in the house or garden.

Q. do you have a 'typical' guest?
A. nope. we've had singles, brothers, cousins, widows, married couples, same-sex couples, and families . . . from the united states, the uk, france, italy, spain, finland, holland, australia, canada and south africa, with ages ranging from nine to 79.

Q. do you provide any tourist information, or should we buy a guide book on the area?
A. by all means, buy a guide book if you'd like, but we've prepared a series of itineraries that will point you in the right direction. these include guides to the nearest beaches, restaurants, lakes, walking/jogging routes, and other tourist attractions nearby.
