questions about caux and around

Q. where is caux?

A. we are located in the south of france, about two hours to the west of marseilles, about 25 minutes inland (north) from the coast, and about two hours southeast of toulouse. for more detailed directions and a map, look at the how to find us page

Q. so what is the best airport to fly into?
beziers is the closest airport to us (25 mins by car), but it is only really useful for flights from bristol in the uk (with ryanair) or from paris. montpellier is the next closest (45 minutes east of us by car), and after that it is a toss up between carcassonne and nimes (both are around 1 and 1/4 hours away). perpignan is another option (1.5 hours), and after that you are looking at toulouse, barcelona, or marseilles (all about two hours away by car)

Q. what's the weather like?
A. the tourist board will gleefully tell you that this area has more than 300 sunny days a year, and that's probably true. we get very little rain between may and october. average temperature for may/june/september/october ranges between 21 - 26 celsius (70 - 79 fahrenheit) . . . july and august tend to be a little warmer, maybe 26 - 30 celsius (79 - 86 fahrenheit). but weather is unpredictable and we offer no guarantees!! check out our local online weather report before you pack!

Q. does it get very hot in the summer?
A. the honest answer? sometimes. that is why we have put air-conditioning in all of our guest rooms. an umbrella for the beach probably isn't a bad idea either (they are readily available and not expensive)

Q. so is caux good for a beach holiday, or sightseeing, or shopping, or what?
A. all of the above! we're less than 30 minutes from the coast, and so most of our guests end up at the beach at some point. but there is also great shopping, tons of restaurants, beautiful lakes, mountains, fantastic old churches, and great walks all within 30 minutes from here.

Q. so is a car essential?
A. absolutely.

Q. does caux have any bars or restaurants?
A. we do have two bars in caux, but they are very traditional, and therefore frequented by a lot of older french farmers and workers from the vineyards . . . be prepared for a cultural experience! unfortunately, there is no restaurant in caux, which means that you'll need to make a 6-7 minute drive into pezenas, roujan, or neffies for your meals (apart from breakfast), as guests do not have access to the kitchen outside of breakfast hours.
